If you’re looking to do a little boating, wake boarding, or bass fishing, some of Carolina’s finest lakes are nearby. Lake Toxaway
Just 3 minutes away and absolutely breathtaking! Stream-fed waters from high in the nearby forests make it one of the cleanest lakes you’ll find anywhere. For a special evening, book an evening lake cruise aboard the Miss Lucy with our friends at the historic Greystone Inn.
Lake Glenville
At the highest elevation of any lake east of the Mississippi (3,494 feet), Lake Glenville is home to three waterfalls! Paddleboard, kayak, canoe or rent a pontoon boat from Signal Ridge Marina. Fishing fanatics – go for large and small mouth bass, walleye, rainbow trout, and even catfish. It’s just a 32-minute drive from Mountain Falls.
Lake Jocassee
Known for its mostly untouched coastline, Lake Jocassee is a manmade lake that encompasses a whopping 7,565 acres. A variety of boat rentals are available, and the lake is stocked with brown and rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and sunfish. Lake Jocassee is 38 minutes from the resort.
Bear Creek Lake
Less than 1 hour from Mountain Falls, Bear Creek Lake is a favorite among boaters, anglers, and kayakers. Be sure to cruise past spectacular Sols Creek Falls, which empties directly into the lake!
Whitewater Rafting
If you’re looking for a little adrenaline-pumping fun, Western Carolina is home to some of the nation’s top outfitters who will guide you on a rumbling rafting adventure down the Nantahala or French Broad Rivers. From mild trips perfect for young kids to full-on Class IV adventures, you’ll find whitewater fun for all levels. Check out Nantahala Outdoor Center or French Broad Adventures both about 1.5 hours from Mountain Falls.
River Tubing
Settle your bum into an inflatable innertube and set out on a lazy, crazy, and wonderfully scenic journey down the French Broad River. Our friends at Headwaters Outfitters (located about 12 minutes from Mountain Falls) will set you up on an easygoing adventure that’s ideal for ages 4 and up. It’s the perfect way to cool off and have fun in the mountains.
